Apple looks set to conquer the world of portable video with the
launch of its video iPod. Apple is will provide more than 2,000
music videos in it's iTunes online music store. Apple hope this
new generation of iPod's will give customers more flexibility.
And to be able to watch TV programmes on their own terms. Podcasting
could also be on the verge of a video revolution, with outspoken
commentary, religious sermons and pornography now being available
on video as well as audio formats.
Apple boss Steve Jobs said,
"Millions of people around the world will buy this new iPod
to play music. Therefore it will quickly become the most popular
portable video player in history,"
There are rival video players however. The Zen Vision has a 3.7
inch display compared to just 2.5 inches of the iPod. While the
Archos AV 500 boasts an eye popping four inches. The 30GB video
iPod will be £219, and the 60GB version £299.
However Apple could soon be rolling out even better value upgraded
versions, and probably with a bigger display. Apple can also expect
competition from Sony, their video Walkman is in the pipeline, and
they have a Vaio portable in Japan.
Apple's trump card could be their iTunes music store. They have
signed deals with ABC already, so people can buy shows like Desperate
Housewifes or Lost.
