Creative begin iPod patent battle

Creative boss Sim Wong Hoo has said he plans to "pursue aggressively" a US patent it owns on a system used to navigate music on digital players. Creative probably still feel a little raw because they released the first mp3 players in 2000, but have been overshadowed by Apple who control 80% of the market share.

Creative has since struggled to play catch up with Apple, and their latest financial figures were not awe inspiring.

Creative have just launched their Zen Vision: M player, a competitor to the Apple Video 5G player.

In August Creative have said they won a US patent for the way files are organised and navigated through on small portable media player. This means Creative can seek royalties from Apple for copying the Creative system of playlists etc.

Mr Hoo also said Apple need to respect intellectual property. He claimed the Creative players are superior due to including radios and microphones. And that Creative is a technology company, whereas Apple are just a branding company.
