iTunes claim 54% UK music sales online

Datat fromXTN Data has declared that iTunes website for the UK now accounts for 54 per cent of UK digital music sales. The company in second place is Napster with five times as less sales.

Napster currently only holds 10 per cent of the download market, even though they were the company who created the mp3 download industry. Plenty of Uk music stores like HMV, Virgin, Tesco and MSN also now have download systems but they only combined make up the remaining 28 per cent market share.

It seems that because Apple has the best selling Mp3 player with 80% of the market share this leaves them in the best position to find new customers for downloading music online. Tha annual amount of legal UK downloads is now around 20 million, of course the amount of illegal downloads is unknown and is probably much higher.
