Sales of iPod down, consumer apathy worries
Apple
Added 14-09-2010
With the global recession effecting most businesses. Apple will
be assessing whether it has had an impact on recent iPod consumer
sales. Sales for the last quarter are the lowest on record since
early two thousand and six.
While the recession may have played it's part, some analysts believe
the cause is more deep roted. The Apple iPhone appears to have taken
the iPod's thunder. With marketing and attention drawn away from
the iPod.
Experts believe Apple are more worried than they let on, or at
least, they should be more worried than they have stated. The iPod
was the device responsible for catipulting Apple to the top of the
technological marketplace.
It's iTunes software has also been responsible for propping up
the ailing music industry. The knock on effect of less new iPod
consumers, should have the music industry concerned. The iPod equates
to lots of paid for digital downloads.
The question is whether Apple can do anything about the apparant
consumer apathy towards it's stand alone music player. The concept
of the iPod dates back over ten years. Technology has obviously
advanced by leaps and bounds in that time.
Apple may be asking themselves, are consumers interested in a media
device that only plays music and movies? Are do they want a device
which play music and movies, but has the all features on offer from
smartphones.
The era of the stand alone music player may have come to an end.
